Demands of the Youth Climate March

  1. Total divestment of public and private funds from the fossil fuel and big agriculture industries.
  2. A just transition to 100% renewable energy by 2040.
  3. Complete stop to the current construction of oil pipelines and fossil fuel infrastructure which are adding carbon emissions to the atmosphere.

Below are a sampling of what we are asking our federal, state, and city lawmakers to do in pursuit of our three overarching march demands...

Nationwide...

We are calling on the Trump administration, U.S. Senate, & Congress to:

  • Recommit the U.S. to the Paris Agreement and act to strengthen international targets for combating climate change.

We are calling on all  U.S. public elected officials and political candidates to:

  • Take the pledge not to take money from the fossil fuel industry.

Statewide...

We are calling on Governor Cuomo; NYS Assembly & Senate to:

  • Follow NYC in divesting public pension funds from the fossil fuel industry.
  • Pass legislation to combat climate change, including:
    • Climate and Community Protection Act
    • Just Transition and Polluter Fee
  • Support a single-use plastic bag ban

Citywide...

We are calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio; NYC Council to:

  • Follow through on the plan for a Zero Waste NYC by 2030 and build on the plan by working toward sending zero waste to both landfills and incinerators.
  • Bolster current efforts to achieve an 80% reduction of CO2 emissions by 2050, especially by focusing on improving energy efficiency in city buildings.
